The name came to me one Sunday in the fall when the sidewalks were filled with people wearing green jerseys. I had my nose in a stack of design magazines and no desire to check out the game. Despite a lack of promotional merchandise and a dearth of footlong hotdogs, I am design’s devoted fan. (I draw the line at painting my face for an ergonomic vegetable peeler or exceptionally moody restaurant interior.)
Because of my growing interest in its many aspects–interiors, products, clothes, cuisine, sustainability, urban planning, and the business of design–design has become a major focus of my freelance work. While saving string and following leads for magazine articles, I come across plenty of bits and pieces that have no obvious home in a magazine but which I’d still like to cover.
Design-phan will include info on design around the city; design events and news; some design crit; announcements about and interviews with local designers; dispatches from design-related daytrips; and it’ll be part shlog (shopping blog).
So, that’s my creation story….welcome, fellow design-phans, and please chime in!
Caroline-
You really cut into my writing time this morning. Spent far too long reading and following your links. Think I’m going to have to order cards from Kates Paperie-nice selection. I’m also somewhat of a design geek. Keep writing.
